Laser Pigmentation Removal Treatment
Professional Treatments for Pigmentation Removal
Service Description
Pigmentation refers to the coloring of the skin. It is caused by melanin, a natural pigment produced by cells called melanocytes. While pigmentation is a normal biological process, various factors can lead to excessive or uneven pigmentation, resulting in aesthetic and medical concerns. Pigmentation disorders include melasma, sunspots, post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH), and freckles, among others. These conditions affect individuals across all skin types and tones and can have significant impacts on self-esteem and quality of life. This guide offers an in-depth look into pigmentation, its causes, types, and most importantly, the wide range of treatment options available today for pigmentation removal, both professional and at-home. Understanding Pigmentation 1. Types of Pigmentation Melasma: Often triggered by hormonal changes (e.g., pregnancy, birth control), melasma appears as brown or grey-brown patches, typically on the face. Sunspots (Solar Lentigines): Caused by prolonged sun exposure, these flat, brown spots usually occur on sun-exposed areas like the face, hands, and shoulders. Freckles: Small, light brown spots commonly found in people with fair skin, often genetic but exacerbated by sun exposure. Post-Inflammatory Hyperpigmentation (PIH): Dark spots left behind after acne, burns, or other skin trauma. Ephelides and Lentigines: Specific types of freckles and sun-induced pigmented lesions. 2. Causes of Pigmentation Sun Exposure: UV rays stimulate melanocyte activity, increasing melanin production. Hormonal Changes: Pregnancy, birth control pills, or hormone therapies can cause melasma. Inflammation or Skin Injury: Acne, eczema, cuts, or burns can lead to PIH. Genetics: Plays a major role in the development of freckles and some other types of pigmentation. Medications and Chemicals: Certain drugs and skin care products can cause pigmentation as a side effect. Professional Treatments for Pigmentation Removal 1. Laser Therapy Laser treatments target and break down melanin deposits in the skin. The body then naturally clears these fragments over time. Common types include: Cynosure Elite+ / Elite iQ Pro: Dual-wavelength systems that combine Alexandrite and Nd:YAG for customizable treatments across all skin types.
